Welcoming a new baby is one of the most special moments in life, and capturing those early days is something many families want to plan ahead for. One of the most common questions I receive is: When should I schedule my newborn photography session?
When is the best time for newborn photos?
The ideal time to photograph a newborn is within the first 5–14 days after birth. During this window, babies are typically sleepier and more easily settled into those soft, curled poses that are often associated with newborn photography. This timing allows for a calm, relaxed session where we can capture your baby in a natural and comfortable way.
When should I book my session?
It’s best to book your newborn session during your second trimester, or early in your third trimester. This ensures availability around your due date and allows time to plan your session details. Because babies don’t always arrive exactly on schedule, sessions are typically reserved based on your due date, and then adjusted once your baby arrives.
What if my baby is older than two weeks?
It’s never too late to capture your baby. While the first two weeks are ideal for posed newborn images, older newborn sessions can still be beautiful and meaningful. These sessions often focus more on natural connection, eye contact, and family interaction.
